A large share of Airway Heights, WA homes built in the mid-1960s and early 1970s still run on original aluminum branch circuit wiring, a known contributor to household electrical fires. Wired Right Electrical identifies every risk point and corrects it with proven, code-compliant methods carried out by certified electricians.
☎ Call 1 (855) 471-2673When copper prices spiked in the mid-1960s, many builders switched to aluminum for branch circuit wiring, and a number of Airway Heights, WA homes from that construction wave still carry that original wiring behind their walls. Aluminum itself isn't defective, but it reacts to electrical load in ways copper does not, and those differences can quietly build into a genuine fire hazard if the wiring is never addressed.
The trouble stems from how much aluminum expands and contracts compared to copper as current flows through it. Each heating and cooling cycle gradually loosens the connections at switches, outlets, junction boxes, and panel terminals. A loosened connection creates resistance, resistance generates heat, and unchecked heat near combustible framing materials is how house fires start. Federal safety data has repeatedly linked homes wired with aluminum branch circuits to a markedly higher rate of electrical fires compared to copper-wired homes.
Wired Right Electrical carries out full aluminum wiring correction projects for Airway Heights, WA homeowners, relying on techniques recognized by federal safety regulators and accepted across the insurance and inspection industries. We start with a room-by-room inspection to map out every point where aluminum conductors meet a device, fixture, or panel terminal, then match each connection to the correction method it actually needs.
Our preferred long-term fix is copper pigtailing — sometimes called the AlumiConn or COPALUM approach — where a short length of copper wire is joined to the existing aluminum conductor using a connector specifically listed for aluminum-to-copper splices. The result is a copper connection at every device throughout your Airway Heights, WA home, removing the aluminum-to-device contact points that cause problems. We finish every splice with a listed anti-oxidant compound, since oxidation on aluminum strands is its own separate source of resistance and heat.
In situations where CO/ALR-rated devices make more sense, our crews install switches and receptacles engineered for direct use with aluminum conductors. Their terminal design is built to hold a solid connection despite aluminum's expansion and contraction, and we still apply anti-oxidant compound at each termination for added protection. Every job we perform meets current NEC requirements along with Airway Heights, WA's local code, and we pull permits whenever the work calls for one so your project stays fully inspectable.
